CollStats for the Road Safety Authority and the Health Service Executive
OpenApp has helped the Road Safety Authority (RSA) and the Health Service Executive (HSE) to jointly develop CollStats, an application that builds on Health Atlas Ireland to display the patterns and locations of road collisions that involved personal injury in recent years in Ireland. The road collision information is based on data collected by Ireland's national police service, An Garda Síochána.
The application allows road collision information to be viewed at three levels of detail:
- At the Ireland and County levels the aggregate number of collisions by time of day and day of week are visible in tabular form for Ireland or for the selected county.
- At the Local level the details of an individual collision can be displayed in tabular form for the selected collision point.
Collision information is made visible by zooming out to the Ireland level, by clicking on a county at County level or by clicking on a collision point at Local level.
The type of collisions that are displayed on the map and aggregated in tabular form at the Ireland and County levels can be filtered according to collisions':
-
Severity - based on the most serious degree of personal injury involved;
-
Year of occurrence - for the last three years;
-
Type - indicates the vehicle type in which the main injuries occurred or if pedestrians were injured.
The application is developed solely using Open Source GIS.
There is flexibility in the variety of background mapping and imagery data the user can choose to see behind the collision points. In addition to using such data from Google, OpenApp uses such data from Ordnance Survey Ireland through the pioneering use of its MapGenie service.
